Savanna Biome

The Savanna Biome

Picture
The Savanna is located in many places around the world and they are Australia, South America, and the most known savanna is in Africa.  And a few of the Countries are Tanzania, Brazil, Columbia, Venezuela, and Northern Australia. It is located between latitudes 15˚- 25˚  N and S.
There are only two main seasons, Winter and Summer. Winter's average temperature is 68˚F,  and during the Summer the average temperature is 78˚-86˚ and the average rainfall a year is 10-30 inches.

Animals, Plants, Fungi, and Protist

There are many types of Animals, Plants, Fungi, and Protist that live in the savanna and here are examples of them.

Threats to the biome

There are many threats to this biome. One of the threats is the foreign pests and weeds that have been brought to this biome in Australia. The foreign weeds are wetland weed Mimosa and they threaten the survival of the region's ecosystems and native species.  Another problem they are having is there are many fires that destroy much of the grass.  So it is harming the animals that are herbivores and with that it is messing up the food web.  Other things that are causing threats are tree clearing and grazing and browsing animals.

What is being done to protect the biome?

What is being done to protect the savanna is people are making sure they don't cause the wild fires.  They also are cutting less trees down. And one last example of what they are doing to protect this biome is they have people going around and protecting some of the groups of animals where their population has gone down. They are creating animal reserves so they can't be harmed by humans.

How do Humans Benefit From The Biome?

Ways humans benefit from this biome is they grow crops such as coffee, soybeans, rice, corn, and beans.  Another way that humans benefit from this biome because they take there live stock out to graze here and so they have meat to eat.

Why The Biome is Important to The Planet

This biome is important to the planet because it has many grazing animals and predators in this area. The african savanna takes up almost half of the continent by covering 5 million square miles.  Another reason that the savanna is important is because in the african savanna it has one of the largest migrations.
